FOREHAND CONTACT POINT | Tennis Evaluation

FOREHAND CONTACT POINT

Racquet’s point of contact with the ball is the most important moment and part of the shot. Quality of contact point determines the accuracy, power, and consistency of the shot. Tennis player needs to adjust to the speed, rotation, bounce of the ball and other possible unexpected changes affected by wind or uneven court surface.

Observe:

FRONT DISTANCE > how late (behind) or early (in front) is the player hitting the ball

SIDE DISTANCE > how far is the player from the ball (sideways); is the elbow of the playing hand bended or straight

HEIGHT > how high is the contact point with the ball (ideally around the hips high; should not be higher than the shoulder height)

ANGLE > what is the angle of the racquet when its strings meet the ball (should be parallel to the ground)

FORCE > is the racquet in control of the ball with enough power and well balanced (racquet should not shake)
